Speaking up for yourself is important!

Advocacy

100_1046Advocacy is an important way for people with a learning difficulty to have more choice and control in their lives.

Self-Advocacy

thumb_wpf_speakup6Self-Advocacy is people speaking up for themselves and representing their own interests in things which are important to them.  People may need support and encouragement to do this, and user led self-advocacy groups like Wiltshire People 1st  can help.

Self-advocacy helps people with a learning difficulty to:thumb_wpf_friends3

  • Be better informed about things
  • Have more power in their lives
  • Make their own decisions and choices
  • Develop confidence and have greater opportunities
  • Be respected and included in their communities

100_2129Wiltshire People 1st supports people to speak up for themselves and each other. We run a Speaking Up Group and Young Person’s Group each month so people can meet, talk, find out about important things that are happening and get involved if they want to.

People can get involved in lots of other ways too!
